PRINCE2®: How Does PRINCE2 Fit In With PMI’s PMBOK?
The Body of Knowledge of PMI focuses primarily on the tools and techniques of best practice project management, whereas PRINCE2 is a method of managing projects and focuses almost entirely on the process of project management. In short, PMI is all about "What" and How,” while PRINCE2 is about "When.” PRINCE2 is not in competition with the PMI, rather it augments its Body of Knowledge with a robust process for using that knowledge.
Proficiency in PRINCE2 is demonstrated through two exams, a Foundation Exam and a Practitioner Exam. Common practice is to sit the Foundation Exam after a three-day training course and to sit the Practitioner Exam after a further two or three days training.
PRINCE2 exams are set and operated by the APM Group (APMG) and are accredited with the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS). |
