Project Management: The Power of the Profession
Dr. Harold Kerzner
Sr. Executive Director, International Institute for Learning, Inc.
Companies are now recognizing that project management has evolved into a business process rather than merely a project management process. The definition of "project success" now includes a business component and enterprise project management methodologies now contain or are integrated with business processes rather than merely existing as project management processes. These changing views of project management have now opened the door for the recognition of value-added opportunities for both project management as well as business.

Jennifer Birch
Executive Director, AT&T Project Management Center of Excellence
At AT&T, project management excellence is critical to the successful execution of our strategic initiatives, especially customer projects. Project Managers and Program Managers collaborate with their teams to ensure the required business benefits are delivered. We believe that in order to sustain project management excellence, several areas must be addressed.
First, the right culture or environment must exist to advocate and support a professional project management community.
Second, the project management competency of individuals, teams, and organizations must be of the highest caliber.
Third, easy-to-use technology and practical tools must be accessible.
AT&T’s corporate Project Management Center of Excellence (PMCOE) is chartered with continually assessing, leveraging, expanding, and improving AT&T’s project management competency. The PMCOE has a number of integrated programs in place to support project management excellence. Many of these programs will be reviewed in AT&T’s presentation.

The Power of Integrated Project Management: A Case Study
Anne Martt
VP & Constellation Program Manager, United Space Alliance, LLC
This presentation demonstrates the power of integrated project management in setting and keeping a complex project on a successful track. This presentation highlights the case of a struggling project whose third (and final) project manager applied integrated project management to bring the project to a position of success.
The Space Shuttle Cockpit Avionics Upgrade was a highly complex development project of new hardware and software with incorporation into 30-year-old legacy systems. Application of the suite of project management tools and techniques in an integrated manner, along with great personal attention by the project manager, was vital in restoring the project to an achievable plan and seeing it into successful performance despite the typical new development challenges.
1:15pm – 1:45pm
Presentation from the Kerzner Award Winner
Tresia Eaves, MHR, PMP, RGS
Sentel Corporation, USA

The Power of Acknowledgment:
Energizing Project Management
Judith W. Umlas, SVP Learning Innovations, International Institute for Learning, Inc. and author, The Power of Acknowledgment
Acknowledgment is a readily available power source that can be used by project managers or business leaders to motivate and inspire project teams, peers, and fellow associates, as well as to improve relationships and interactions with the people they connect with on a day to day basis. Acknowledgment is an immediately effective way to bring about positive change in the work environment or in the social or home environment. This presentation will help participants identify and utilize the “Knock Your Socks Off” Power of Acknowledgment in their professional and personal lives.
Benefits include:
Immediately improved relationships with colleagues, project team members, and other stakeholders
Greater appreciation and understanding about acknowledgment at a global level
Planting the seeds for the establishment of a work atmosphere that is vibrant, productive and alive instead of lethargic, competitive, frustrated and bored
A healthier and more satisfied disposition for participants and the all people they interact with
