About the Presentation
In this presentation, Mr. Bates will walk through the PMI-CP requirements and provide experiences and lessons learned from instructing the first PMI-CP cohort ever taught in North America. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities hosted a hybrid (virtual and in-person) modality cohort with several of their prime contractors. We will walk throgh the material that prepares students for the exam and what to expect while relating our experience with the PMI content and our lessons learned.

About Jim Bates
Jim Bates, PMP® (Certified Project Management Professional) and PMI-SCP® (Certified Senior Construction Professional) is the Founder, President and CEO of Business Improvement Group, Inc. (BIG). Since 2012, Jim has served as an Adjunct Professor in several schools at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), including the MS in Project Management program. Jim has served in various volunteer roles with the PMI Alaska Chapter (PMIAK) since 2011 and served as Chapter President from October 2019 through December 2021.
Jim’s vast career spans 40+ years with proficiencies in Business Management and Project Management with over 30,000 hours as Portfolio, Program, & Project architect, practitioner, instructor, and leader. Jim’s background includes Information Technology accumulating in serving as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the State of Alaska under two administrations from 2013-2016.
Jim is a certified leadership coach with GiANT Worldwide, a Lean Six Sigma Mater Black Belt, and holds Masters Certificates in Business Analysis, Lean Six Sigma, and Project Management from Villanova University. Jim has been published in CIO Review and Government Technology magazines among various other publications, and is a public speaker and renown business optimization expert.
