PMP® Certification Requirements
Earning your PMP Certification is a commitment, and that’s why it is valuable. Do you have real-world project management experience that’s led to success? Great—you’ve finished the hardest part. Before you apply, make sure you meet of the following sets of PMP Certification requirements:
- A four-year degree
- 36 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
— OR —
- A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
- 60 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

Lesson 2: The Big Picture
This lesson provides context for the rest of the course. Lesson 9: Next Steps

End-of-Course Knowledge Check
Learners MUST go to “MyPMI” and complete the knowledge check (10 questions) at the end of the course.
- Required to earn IIL’s certificate of completion
- Unlimited attempts to pass with a score 80% or better
- Knowledge Check Certificates auto-issued in MyPMI
- Supports PMI certification audit verification
Exam Information
The PMP examination is comprised of:
- 180 questions. Of the 180 questions, 10 are considered unscored pre-test questions.
- 240 minutes to complete the exam
- Two 10-minute breaks
The first break occurs after the case-study section, and the second break occurs approximately midway through the independent question portion of the exam. Please note, once you review your responses and start your break, you will not be able to return to the questions from the previous section of the exam.
- Questions will be a combination of Case or Scenario, Enhanced Matching, Graphic-Based Questions, Multiple-Choice Single Response, Multiple-Response Questions, Point and Click: Matching, Pull-down List.

Maintaining Certification
- 60 professional development units (PDUs) in a three-year cycle
- Minimum of 35 Education PDUs
