Challenges Facing Organizations with
Regard to Project Management Growth

By Dr. Harold Kerzner

Abstract

The growth in project management on a worldwide basis has been remarkable. Unfortunately, for many organizations, especially in the global marketplace, there have been significant challenges that needed to be addressed. Overcoming the challenges may not quickly, or even at all, eliminate all of the issues many companies are facing, but should make it easier to manage project obstacles and increase the chances of project success.

The obstacles will not be overcome quickly. It is difficult to recognize all of the challenges up front and know how to resolve them. Every company has their own
unique set of challenges. Also, many of the solutions to some of the challenges may bring forth new issues needing to be resolved.

Expecting the challenges to be overcome quickly is wishful thinking. Despite visible support from the senior levels of management, overcoming some of the challenges
may take years.
