Abstract
In today’s complex and rapidly evolving world, the demands on project managers have intensified. It is no longer sufficient for them to develop capabilities, competencies, and new skills—a process often referred to as horizontal development. Instead, there is a growing need for project managers to undergo vertical development, which involves shifting their thinking by increasing their awareness of themselves, others, and the systems they are part of. This white paper examines the thinking capacities (or mindsets) required for successful project management and the stages of vertical development that enhance their competencies in complex project environments.
